The 30-Day Rule
Access to Haena State Park is strictly controlled to protect the environment and local community. Entry and parking reservations are released exactly 30 days prior at 12:00 AM HST.
Three Ways to Enter
-
Parking + Entry
Includes one parking stall and entry for everyone in the vehicle. This is the hardest permit to get.
-
North Shore Shuttle
The most recommended option. Your shuttle ticket includes park entry. It departs from the Waipa Park and Ride in Hanalei.
-
Entry Only (Walk-in/Bike)
Available if you are a Hawaii Resident or have arrived via local drop-off. Note: No drop-offs are allowed within the park itself; you must be dropped off outside and walk in.
⚠️ Strict Enforcement
Parking on Kuhio Highway near the park entrance is strictly prohibited. Fines are $200+, and towing is frequent. Additionally, hiking beyond Hanakapi’ai Beach into the Kalalau Valley requires a separate Camping Permit. Check with the DLNR for availability.
Planning Your Visit
Expect rain and mud. The North Shore is the wettest part of the island. Wear sturdy shoes and respect all "Closed" signs at the trailhead.
