Mastering the Haena Permit System

Your step-by-step guide to accessing Ke’e Beach, the Kalalau Trail, and Haena State Park.

The 30-Day Rule

Access to Haena State Park is strictly controlled to protect the environment and local community. Entry and parking reservations are released exactly 30 days prior at 12:00 AM HST.

💡 Pro Tip: Set an alarm. Parking slots often sell out within minutes of being released. If parking is sold out, the North Shore Shuttle is your best alternative.

Three Ways to Enter

⚠️ Strict Enforcement

Parking on Kuhio Highway near the park entrance is strictly prohibited. Fines are $200+, and towing is frequent. Additionally, hiking beyond Hanakapi’ai Beach into the Kalalau Valley requires a separate Camping Permit. Check with the DLNR for availability.

Planning Your Visit

Expect rain and mud. The North Shore is the wettest part of the island. Wear sturdy shoes and respect all "Closed" signs at the trailhead.
